That focus on the customer is especially welcome on the wine list, where the house white (£39) – a streamlined Chenin Blanc stunner produced exclusively for Atherton’s restaurants – is enthusiastically pushed by group head sommelier Laure Patry. SQUARE MEAL

For birthdays or business, romance or carousing, “flawless” Pollen Street Social is “the perfect restaurant” – whether you’re wearing jeans or a suit. “Is Michelin-starred dining supposed to be this much fun?” quips one fan.
